Three days after the protests and counter-protests in Charlottesville, VA — a man walked up to me — his body covered in what most consider symbols of hate.
And I knew instantly that my life was going to change.
I didn’t know how or why, I just knew that it would and that I was getting ready to take a ride on a rollercoaster of love, faith, compassion, tolerance, trust and truth.
I also knew that I was being handed an invitation to grow, heal, evolve and get even closer to love.
And I was oh, so right.
What started with “hello” has turned into a video series where he and I record our conversations about his journey with hate — why he connected to that belief structure/ideology and why it resonated with him.
We also talk about his journey of learning how to love — what happened in his life that allowed him to begin letting go of the hate — and connect more deeply with a desire to love and be loved.
It’s a powerful series and mind blowing in its simplicity (two people talking on the floor in my home) and yet profound in the exchange of courage, tolerance, fear, pain, hope, vulnerability, truth and a shared vision of love.
Here’s a little intro video and a 30-second snippet of our conversation. The first of the three part series hits this Friday, 9/15.
Please leave me a comment if this video moves you or inspires something within you and please, please, please share/forward this on if you feel like there are others who will appreciate the message.
It takes a village. Each one, teach one.
There’s meaning in everything and everyone.
